Add-Ons to Your Massage

To customize your massage experience to your needs, you can add any of these other techniques to a massage session.

Manual Cupping

An ancient Chinese form of alternative medicine in which a local suction is created on the skin. Practitioners believe this mobilizes blood flow in order to promote healing. Suction is created using mechanical devices (hand or electric pumps). Benefits include: relieving pain and inflammation from injury or chronic conditions; relieving deep muscular issues and reducing muscle spasms; releasing and softening scar tissue and loosening post-surgery adhesions; lifting and stretching soft tissue to separate fascia and restrictions; increasing range of movement and flexibility in joints; promoting healthy circulation; opening the energy flow of the body; moving stagnation and enabling normal lymphatic flow, and enhancing any athletic training program to improve performance.

Cranial Sacral Therapy

CST was pioneered and developed by osteopathic physician John E. Upledger. CST is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system called the craniosacral system – comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord.

Using a soft touch generally no greater than 5 grams, or about the weight of a nickel, practitioners release restrictions in the craniosacral system to improve the functioning of the central nervous system.

By complementing the body’s natural healing processes, CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and is effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction, including:

  • Migraine Headaches
  • Chronic Neck and Back Pain
  • Motor-Coordination Impairments
  • Colic
  • Autism
  • Central Nervous System Disorders

Myofascial Release

Technique generally used in most treatments

Myofascial release (or MFR) is considered an alternative medicine therapy that is used to treat skeletal muscle immobility and pain by relaxing contracted muscles, improving blood and lymphatic circulation.

Myo means muscle Fascia is a thin, tough, elastic type of connective tissue that wraps most structures within the human body, including muscle. Fascia supports and protects these structures.

MFR can be very gentle or a bit more rigorous and is an excellent choice for many conditions, including chronic pain and fibromyalgia.
